According to Bloomberg, the Nuclear Safety Commission fined the company 10.5 million won ($7,900) for this incident. Additional fines may apply for other violations.

The incident occurred in May when two workers at the Samsung factory in Giheung were exposed to radiation that significantly exceeded the annual norm.

The breach occurred during maintenance of equipment for the analysis of silicon wafers. The safety device that was supposed to turn off the radiation source did not work due to negligence on the part of the radiation safety department.

Samsung said it would cooperate with the investigation, provide assistance to the victims and take measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
