A court in St. Petersburg found the former co-owners of the bankrupt Yulmart chain, Dmitry Kostygin and August Meyer, guilty in the case of embezzlement of funds from banks VTB, Sberbank and SberFactoring for a total amount of 3.14 billion rubles. This was reported by the joint press service of the St. Petersburg courts.

Kostygin and Meyer were sentenced to four and three years in prison, respectively. Other defendants in the case received shorter sentences: Meyer’s wife and his business partner Inna Meyer – two years in prison, the general director of BigBox LLC Elena Streltsova – two years and two months, the former directors of the legal entities Yulmart Sergei Fedorinov and Vladimir Shonurov – 2 years each. At the same time, all of them were released from the sentence imposed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
Kostygin, Meyer and others were charged with fraud, but the case was later reclassified as “causing damage to property by deception or breach of trust.”
- The criminal case has been investigated since 2017 and contains 190 volumes. None of the defendants admitted guilt.
- In late 2020, the High Court of the British Virgin Islands sentenced co-owner Dmitry Kostygin to one year in prison. He was found guilty of violating a court order requiring him to disclose assets worldwide to one of his creditors, VTB Bank, as well as contempt of court.
- In 2022, a court in St. Petersburg confiscated the property of Inna Meyer, wife of August Meyer, co-owner of the Rive Gauche and Yulmart chains. A year later, he was released on bail of 30 million rubles. He was arrested in December 2021.
