One of Yandex’s clients lost more than 800 thousand rubles after a technical failure in the company, writes Kommersant. The customer made a payment to Yandex Split (the company’s service for partial payment of purchases) and Yandex Pay on September 28, as a result, the money was written off for one transaction due to repeated transactions.

The Yandex Pay support service informed the user that “erroneous debits are canceled manually”, so this will take several days.

The failure occurred on September 28 and could have been caused by a hacker attack, the Kommersant interlocutor said. The company itself described the incident as a “technical error.”

Experts interviewed by the newspaper found it difficult to determine the possible amount of illegal cancellations. Independent expert Andrei Barjota reported an “estimated” amount of between 200 and 600 million rubles.

On September 30, Yandex Taxi users talked about being charged for trips they did not take. The company then reported that “technical reasons for additional cancellations” were eliminated and funds were returned to customers.
