In line with user requests, YouTube Shorts will support videos up to 3 minutes. The announcement, made this Thursday (03), is a response to various requests since the format’s inception and shows how social networks are increasingly investing in videos that are not too short.

The announcement of longer videos on Shorts is in line with trends on other platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, which aim to expand user possibilities. The Chinese social network allows videos of up to 10 minutes, while Reels allows posts of 90 seconds to 15 minutes, depending on the broadcast method.

YouTube Shorts videos up to 3 minutes are valid for all video formats and do not affect existing content on the red social network. This functionality will be available to everyone starting October 15th.

Improvements are being made to the design of short videos

In addition to improvements in the length of videos, YouTube has also made some changes to the appearance of the platform. The description bar next to the logo and Sign Up button has been moved to a lower area of ​​the screen, while the action buttons on the side now only have outlines of icons and are no longer filled.

For those who prefer traditional videos, the social network will offer the user an option that shows fewer short videos. To enable it, go to the Shorts home page, click the three buttons on the right, and select “Show fewer Shorts.”

Finally, the platform will also allow users to create and use templates from other Shorts with the Remix option.
