There was a technical problem at Sberbank terminals, due to which cardholders of different banks were debited twice for purchases, RBC reported citing sources. Banks promised to return funds to customers for double transactions.

The publication clarified that clients of several banks have been reporting double debits for several days. One of RBC’s interlocutors said that customers who paid for purchases at Sberbank POS terminals had problems.
Another source in the publication noted that double debits applied only to Visa payment system cards. Left the Russian market; Card payments in Russia go through the National Payment Card System (NSCP). Another interlocutor said that the cancellations were mainly between bank clients who processed clearing files (confirming payments) several times a day.
The NSPK informed the publication’s source that it had sent a letter to the banks discussing what happened. On the part of the NSPK everything worked as usual, they clarified there.
The Bank of Reconstruction and Development of the Urals also pointed out the problems of Sberbank. Raiffeisenbank and Zenit Bank said they were not involved in the error and promised to return the money to double-debit customers.
