Russian music services “Yandex Music”, “VK Music”, “Zvuk” and “MTS Music” will begin labeling recognized artists as foreign agents from October 4. This was reported on Telegram by the deputy chairman of the State Duma Information Policy Committee, Anton Gorelkin.

According to him, this measure will allow listeners to consciously decide whether they want to support foreign agents, since the number of auditions directly influences the remuneration of artists. “The details of the technical implementation were discussed with the industry for some time, but a solution was found. Foreign agents will no longer be able to hide their status from users of music services,” the deputy stressed.
Roskomnadzor will monitor compliance with the requirements. The department “will take action in the event of any violations,” Gorelkin warned.
For his part, State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein stressed that songs by foreign agents will not be banned if the content of the songs does not violate Russian legislation: “The music will remain streaming. Listening to it or not is a matter of taste. But the performer will not receive royalties for the auditions.”
Currently, about 20 Russian artists are included in the register of foreign agents, including Zemfira, Monetochka, Noize MC, Morgenstern (all recognized as foreign agents in Russia) and others, Vedomosti estimates.
In July 2024, Yandex Music introduced Nitro technology, based on the analysis of tracks by neural networks. The innovation helps emerging artists gain streaming recommendations and attract more listeners.
