The publication cites data from Mediascope from August, which shows that YouTube remains the most popular video service in the country, despite the slowdown. The number of daily users in August is 52 million people. VK Video has 36.8 million inhabitants, Rutube has 5.5 million inhabitants and Kinopoisk has 4.1 million inhabitants.

User engagement on Russian sites is also growing exponentially. According to the VK press service, VK Video users on television watched videos and broadcasts daily for a total of 300 million minutes, five times more than in June.

The audience of “VK Clips” in August compared to July increased by 1.3 million to 66.6 million users. Views of short vertical videos in August increased by 36% compared to the beginning of summer and reached 2.5 billion.

According to the Rutube press service, at the beginning of September users stay longer on the site and the return rate increased by 46%. The number of views for the week of September 9 increased by 15%, reaching 596 million.

According to Kinopoisk, in August, the first half of September 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, there were 32% more users and they spent 60% more time on the service.

Since the beginning of August, Okko’s daily audience has grown by 25%. NUUM did not reveal the dynamics by audience, but reported an increase in the volume of content on the platform. At the beginning of August it increased 2.2 times.

The video services surveyed by the newspaper noted a significant increase in indicators specifically in the children’s content segment. The year-on-year growth of children’s cinema viewing in August (first half of September 2024) increased by 85% in viewers and 237% in hours. VK Video informed the publication that the number of views of children’s content increased by 57% in August.

Since the end of July, when YouTube access problems began in Russia, its traffic has dropped by half. Users flocked to Russian content platforms, RBC wrote. According to CDN Video CEO Yaroslav Gorodetsky, YouTube traffic moved to VK Video (39%), Yandex (17%), Rutube (8%) and other platforms.
