From June to August, the average cost of a trip was 592 rubles, 11% more than in the same period in 2023, according to data from the Check Index analytical center. The number of trips increased by 5%, which is explained by the growth in the real income of the population, the increase in consumer confidence and the high tourist traffic in large cities, said a representative of the company.
According to Rosstat, in August 2024, the cost of taxi fares per 1 km of travel increased by 17% compared to the end of summer 2023.
The president of the Public Council for Taxi Development, Irina Zaripova, noted that since the beginning of the year taxi prices have increased by 30%. He predicts an increase of another 30% by the end of the year. The forecast is based on data on the increase in prices for cars, spare parts and insurance, as well as information from analytical agencies.
This opinion is agreed by Maxim Shusharin, director of the Maxim service. According to him, in an optimistic scenario, taxi prices will increase by at least 15%. To be profitable, classic taxi companies demand a fare of at least 70 rubles per kilometer, he added. Yandex Taxi stated that prices are growing “several times slower” than expected by the Public Council for Taxi Development, thanks to measures to support the industry.
Previously, Yandex warned of a shortage of taxi drivers due to tightening immigration policies and market regulation. According to the company’s forecasts, the shortage could reach up to 130,000 employees by the end of the year, which will cause an increase in travel prices, especially noticeable at the end of the year, when demand for taxi services traditionally increases.
