Wikipedia wants to eradicate artificial intelligence from its services, or at least purge all AI-generated content that may be clogging entries in the collaborative digital encyclopedia.
Reportedly 404 MediumA team of Wikipedia editors have come together to create the “WikiProject AI Cleanup,” which describes itself as “a collaboration to combat the growing problem of unused and poorly written AI-generated content on Wikipedia.”

So this is not a ban, but rather a polishing and cleaning up of all the incorrect and confusing AI generated content.
“The goal of this project is not to restrict or ban the use of AI in articles,” says a battle-ready Wikipedia forum, “but to verify that its results are acceptable and constructive, and to correct or eliminate them if they are not.”
Editors also say they have learned to recognize certain prose patterns and “taglines,” allowing them to detect and neutralize sloppy text written by artificial intelligence.
“Some of us noticed a predominance of unnatural writing that had clear signs of being created by artificial intelligence, and we were able to reproduce similar ‘styles’ using ChatGPT,” said WikiProject AI Cleanup co-founder Ilyas Leble, adding that “we discovered “Some general AI slogans allowed us to quickly detect some of the most egregious examples of generated articles.”
