Imagine sitting at the computer for hours typing a file in Word, but losing all the content. This was the problem text editor users encountered, but Microsoft has confirmed that the Word bug that was deleting users’ files has already been resolved – thankfully.
The problem consisted of locally saved files being deleted after being edited or created in Word. When completing the task and saving as usual the app confirmed the save but when looking at the source folder it was no longer there.
This bug caused problems for many Windows users in recent weeks until it was officially confirmed by Microsoft recently. The bug only affected those with Word 365 version 2409 and build 18025.20104, so it wasn’t a widespread issue and only affected a fraction of users.
How to solve the error?
However, Microsoft has confirmed that it has fixed the issue in Word and that the tool no longer causes saved documents to be deleted. The company’s recommendation is that if any users continue to experience the issue, close and reopen the Office suite for the fixes to take effect.
Keeping the operating system updated is another important step, as major updates to Windows can affect the performance of the machine. If the problem still cannot be resolved, it will be useful to reinstall the applications and contact official Microsoft support.
For those who want more security when storing data, investing in cloud options such as Google Docs may be a viable option.
