This week the existence of a bug was discovered words deleted your documents when saving them locally on your computer, which has thankfully now been fixed Microsoft. An annoying bug caused files to disappear when trying to save changes.
It’s worth remembering that the issue affected version 2409 of the Word desktop client and occurred when certain conditions were met. This particular problem appeared in all documents. DOCX and RTF when the file extension was in upper case (.DOCX and .RTF respectively).
The same thing happened if there was a hash symbol (#) in the header of the file being edited. Keep in mind that the error in question did not occur when saving editing progress using the Save button, but rather when saving changes from the warning message that appeared when closing Microsoft Word.
User complaints quickly reached Microsoft, which got to work and came up with a solution. Thus, those who use the historical text editor on a daily basis can now rest assured that their work will not end up in the trash. Despite this, it is still a good idea to ensure that no further changes have been applied to the document before closing the Word window.
According to Microsoft on its support website, this Word error has been resolved through a service change that is now available on all computers running version 2409 of the desktop client. If the problem persists, the company recommends close all Office applications and open your text editor again.
Microsoft fixes latest Word bug
It is worth noting that although the error deleted Word documents when saving, it did not permanently delete them. Restoring them was very easy as you only had to restore them from Basket. In any case, many users got a big scare when they saw their files disappear from the Windows desktop or the folder in which they were saved.
Unfortunately, recently the appearance of problems in Word and other applications of the Microsoft office suite has become quite common. For example, in August, an issue was reported that caused both the text editor, OneNote, and Outlook to quit unexpectedly. This happened while writing or running a spell check.
Although Redmond residents were quick to come up with a solution to the latest Word errors, they still unwanted situations that impact the public’s user experience. Especially when you consider that in many areas of work and school, these are applications that are used every day and any interruption to which can have negative consequences.
If you are among those who have suffered from Word documents being deleted when saving, you can now rest assured that it has been fixed. Anyway, back to the previous point: the best is avoid special characters in uppercase file names and extensionsin case the problem occurs again in the future. Also be sure to take the time to save manually and don’t wait to press X to save all your progress before exiting the software.
