“I am preparing an appeal to the RKN leadership to ask them to reconsider their decision. You must be able to work with the Internet and not ban everything. Without competition we will never have analogues and we will become the country of the winning VPN,” said the deputy.

He added that, according to Mediascope, in Russia Discord is used by between 25 and 40 million people and, in terms of functionality, neither Yandex Telemost, nor VK Messenger, “nor any other national product” can replace it. “At this rate, there will soon be no social media or services available in the country without a VPN,” Davankov warned.

RKN restricted access to Discord on October 8. The reason was a violation of legal requirements by the platform. The blocking of the service was preceded by failures in its operation, which users reported on October 8, as well as on September 19 and 26.

On October 1, RKN stated that they demanded that the site remove 947 materials containing calls for extremism, suicide, pro-drugs and other prohibited content. The same day, the FSB announced the arrest of nine teenagers who were preparing attacks through Discord.
