The head of development of the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset, Dan Riccio, will resign, Bloomberg reports citing informed sources. Riccio has worked at Apple for more than 26 years and leaves the company as vice president.

According to the agency, employees of the Vision Products Group division, led by Riccio, will report to John Ternus, who heads the hardware division. Vision Products Group has worked to create mixed reality headsets and related technologies.
Bloomberg called Riccio’s departure one of the most significant resignations by Apple’s senior management in recent times. In a closed-door meeting at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Riccio said he wants to become more involved in developing the university’s engineering program, which will be renamed in his honor in 2022.
At Apple, Riccio led the tablet development division and the autonomous vehicle project at various times. Apple abandoned the latter in 2024. With Riccio’s participation, Apple launched the AirPods headphones, the iPad Pro tablet and the first iPhones.
