“Access to the Discord messenger is limited in the Russian Federation. There is no reason to unblock the service. We recommend that media outlets, bloggers and other Internet resources do not publish false information,” RKN stated.
Previously, on October 10, several Telegram channels reported that Discord, after being blocked in Russia, had become available again for some users. “It depends on the provider. For example, Rostelecom Moscow does not show errors when transmitting data with this resource,” noted the authors of the DevHub Community channel.
Several users of the Downdetector.su portal also reported that they were able to access the web version of Discord. An RB.RU correspondent was convinced that the discord.com site was opened in Russia without a VPN.
Roskomnadzor also reported that they do not plan to introduce restrictions regarding the Steam gaming platform. Previously, several pages of the Steam community website were included in the RKN register of banned sites, but, according to the regulator, the site administration removed about 250 illegal materials.

Roskomnadzor blocked Discord on October 8, citing a violation of Russian law. The blocking was preceded by failures in the messenger, which were reported by Russian users on October 8, as well as on September 19 and 26.

On October 1, RKN stated that they demanded that the site remove 947 materials with calls for extremism, suicide, as well as pro-drug and other prohibited content. The same day, the FSB announced the arrest of nine teenagers who were preparing attacks through Discord.

On October 8, State Duma Deputy Chairman and New People’s Party deputy Vladislav Davankov promised that he would send an appeal to the RKN asking it to reconsider the decision to block the messenger.

On October 9, MP Alexander Khinshtein said that Discord could resume work in Russia if the service’s administration complied with the requirements of local legislation.
