According to Nelson, cooperation between the two countries has been continuing since 1975. And it will not be possible to control the ISS “without the Russians and Americans working together.”

“I am very pleased (…) how nice it is that our two countries have common ground on which to work together, and this has been the case with the Apollo-Soyuz mission since 1975. It makes sense to continue this. As for the ISS, this is a clear necessity, because you cannot operate the station unless the Russians and Americans work together,” the NASA chief emphasized.
