Lenta.ru, citing the Mash Telegram channel as the main source, writes that customers were poisoned by “classic” marshmallows (the key symptoms are diarrhea and nausea) and sent a complaint letter to the store.
Representatives of the company assure that “the information disseminated online is not true” and their products meet all the requirements:
- Marshmallows contain an approved additive: the sugar substitute maltitol, which has a laxative effect only when consumed in excess (all warnings are published on the package and in the description on the website and in the app).
- The product has passed all scheduled laboratory tests – compliance with safety and quality is confirmed.
The chain, however, promised to send new samples for unscheduled testing, although it highlighted that the percentage of complaints about the quality of the products – 32 in the last four months – represents less than 0.3% of total purchases. .
“We understand that unreliable news in the media has worried our customers, so we have decided to suspend sales of maltitol marshmallows until we receive the results of repeated investigations, to remove the product from store shelves and from access to online orders,” VkusVill wrote. .
Since several outbreaks of botulism occurred in the summer due to the consumption of prepared foods (in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod), news about poisoning began to attract more attention. Victims of low-quality products in the capital filed a lawsuit and are now demanding from Samokat and Kitchen of the district up to 2 million rubles per person.
