Pro-Palestinian “hacktivist” group SN_BLACKMETA claimed responsibility for the attack in posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Telegram. They stated that their motivation stemmed from opposing the US government’s support for Israel.
In one of the now-deleted posts, SN_BLACKMETA criticized the archive for “reflecting US interests” that “harms lives abroad” despite being a “non-profit organization.”
The group previously claimed responsibility for a six-day DDoS attack on the same archive in May; During this attack, tens of thousands of false information requests were generated per second.
