The 2024 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo, which represents the victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This is stated on the Nobel Committee page on the social network X.

The award was given for the organization’s efforts “to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons should never be used again,” the committee said.
Nihon Hidankyo is a Japanese confederation of organizations affected by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which advocates for nuclear disarmament. The association was founded in 1956.
285 candidates (196 individuals and 89 organizations) have been nominated for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize. This year, the cash portion of the prize is 11 million Swedish crowns (just under $1.1 million).
