Alice Rosenzweig, one of Asahi Linux managers, explained that the games run in a virtual machine due to memory addressing differences between Apple Silicon and x86 systems. While most games like Control, Fallout 4, and Cyberpunk 2077 currently run at under 60 frames per second, the project’s Vulkan driver, codenamed Honeykrisp, represents a significant step forward by adding OpenCL 3.0 support and improving compatibility with key gaming APIs.
The current alpha version is available in Fedora Asahi Remix distributions and supports M1 and M2 Macs; Requires a minimum of 16 GB RAM for optimal performance.
