Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid’s new number nine, has joined a growing list of footballers – active or retired – who have found the perfect place in the tech industry to make their money. And the former PSG, through his seed capital company Coalition Capital, bought 10% of the German consumer electronics giant Loewe Technology (Bloomberg)known for making televisions in the 80s, but nowadays it’s more of a brand lifestyle from the hand of none other than Mbappe.

But why are footballers turning to technology as an investment option?

Rather, the question is why not. Successful footballers, Marcelo Bielsa would say, became millionaires prematurely. Well thought out, they have reliable capital to invest in the future and without haste to reap immediate dividends. Mbappe – also an investor in fantasy football Sorare – for example, is immersed in Loewe’s plan to increase profits by 400% in the coming years. In fact, it is likely that you are unfamiliar with Loewe outside of Germany. This is where the figures of football players and world stars make sense.

Mbappe has 122 million followers on Instagram and is widely considered to be the most promising footballer of the future. On top of that, he’s a guy who doesn’t get into absurd discussions or politics, and when he does, seems to be on the right side of history. This is why having footballers as investors is an advantage from a marketing perspective and why more and more footballers are choosing to invest in the technology industry.
