The robot was trained to recognize rhythm and dynamics, allowing it to control the three sections of the orchestra independently of each other. This was especially noticeable during the performance of the work “Semiconductor Masterpiece” by composer Andreas Gundlach, which inspired the creation of the robot.
Gundlach noted that the development of the robot took two years and was carried out in cooperation with the Technical University of Dresden. Teaching the machine “aesthetic hand movements,” he says, helps it gain a new understanding of human uniqueness.
The robot also premiered Wieland Reissmann’s “#kreuzknoten”, showcasing the instruments’ abilities by performing simultaneously at different tempos.
