Experts from the University of Queensland and Matera have found several types of gut bacteria that can suppress inflammation in the gut and symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD is a chronic disease in which occasional inflammation occurs in the intestines.

A team of scientists led by Associate Professor Jake Begun of the University of Queensland has succeeded in finding bacteria that produce anti-inflammatory substances in the healthy gut. Laboratory tests have shown that there are five strains of this type of bacteria.

Dr. One of the strains may even create anti-inflammatory agents that can reduce the severity of bowel disease without side effects, according to Begun. Also, this happens by inhibiting the NF-kB enzyme.
