Rosselkhozbank (RSHB) has decided to completely abandon foreign IT products in order to minimize the risks arising from sanctions and restrictions of foreign companies. For this purpose, they are creating a new server virtualization platform, based on domestic technologies and independent of imports, that will ensure the reliable operation of all the bank’s information systems.
The selection of a new solution took place from May to October 2022. Experts analyzed the technologies available on the market and compiled a long list of possible solutions. They then went through several selection stages, including technical and functionality tests, to choose a product that would work immediately without waiting for updates.
Migrating to a new platform is not an easy task because it requires integration into the existing infrastructure of a 24-hour bank. In the process of migrating from the VMware platform to Red Virtualization, the team faced many challenges, including the development of new tools for virtual server setup and integration with the backup system. For a successful transition, pilot tests were held that lasted two months and included fault tolerance testing. RSHB plans to complete the transfer of all its services to a domestic platform by the end of 2024, which will reduce capital costs on software by up to 25%.
