Developers have already adapted some Android apps for HarmonyOS NEXT and created new ones directly for it. According to Richard Yu, director of Huawei Consumer Business Group, the ecosystem now includes 15 thousand applications and services, and their number will continue to grow.

Huawei created HarmonyOS in response to restrictions imposed by the United States in 2019, so the company lost access to technology and the US market. Previous versions of the operating system that support Android applications run about a billion devices around the world: smartphones, tablets, as well as smart home systems, car infotainment systems and other devices.

HarmonyOS NEXT adds dynamic wallpapers, new lock screen themes, and artificial intelligence (AI)-supported Celia voice assistant. In the near future, the operating system will be available on new and old models of Huawei smartphones.

In the second quarter of 2024, Huawei surpassed Apple in terms of tablet shipments in China. Apple shipped 3 million fewer tablets than the previous year (20.1 million versus 23.4 million) and Huawei increased shipments from 12.3 million to 20.5 million.
