We have previously written that Orion, which is expected to exceed the capabilities of the current flagship GPT-4, is expected to be released in December. Articles in Western media stated that trusted partners will have early access, followed by a wider release via ChatGPT. Microsoft, a major investor and partner in OpenAI, is allegedly expected to gain access to Orion in early November.

OpenAI acknowledged that The Verge’s report was inaccurate, but declined to provide further details. The company confirmed that Orion is indeed in development and is being trained in part on synthetic data generated by the o1 model.
