Scientists from Perm Polytechnic University made an important discovery in the field of 3D printing with metals. Unlike traditional methods, which can turn up to 90% of materials into waste, the new technology significantly reduces resource consumption and lowers energy costs. Additionally, final products can be up to 60% lighter, which is especially important for the aviation industry. But problems with process quality and stability often arise, and the institute’s experts develop solutions to eliminate them.

Research has shown that the quality of 3D products depends on several key factors. For example, deformation of the wire in the insulation channel may reduce the print quality. Problems can also arise due to uneven distribution of pulses on the molten metal and changes in heat input, resulting in wear of the printer mechanisms. For each of these problems, scientists have proposed design solutions that will improve print stability and quality.

Experts recommend moving the feed motor closer to the wire accumulator and adding a balancing motor to reduce the risk of material buildup. To automate the process, sensors must be installed to monitor the filling. According to experts, to minimize the impact on the material and improve print management, it is recommended to implement a system with artificial intelligence that will automatically optimize the deposition parameters. Thus, new approaches will help increase the efficiency and quality of 3D printing and can make domestic companies more competitive in the production of metal parts.
