17 international TV channels demanded that Google pay 2 undecillion rubles. For comparison, a ticket to Mars from SpaceX costs $100 thousand (about 10 million rubles).
During the court hearing, which took place on October 28, the representative judge, who considered “a case in which there are many, many zeros,” notes RBC. The court determined this amount to Google due to the fact that the company did not comply with the requirements to restore the accounts of Russian media on YouTube.
The victims as third parties in the case are:
• “Star”
• “Channel One”
• VGTRK (“Russia 1”, “Russia 24” and others)
• “Parliamentary Television”
• “Moscow Media”
• “TV-Center”
• NTV
• “GPM Entertainment Television”
• “Public Television of Russia”
• “TV channel 360”
• “TRK Petersburg”
• “Orthodox Television Foundation”
• “National Sports Channel”
• “Technology company”
• Individual entrepreneur M.S. Simonyan, representing the YouTube channel of TV presenter Margarita Simonyan
Previously, a Russian court ordered Google to restore deleted channels on YouTube. In case of failure to comply with the requirements, the company had to pay a penalty.
If the court decision is not implemented within 9 months from the moment it comes into force, a fine of 100 thousand rubles will be assessed for each day of non-compliance. The amount doubles every week. [РБК]
