GitHub Copilot, the AI-powered generative programming assistant, is now multimodal. Through the tool, developers can ask for recommendations, reviews, and other “help” for different AIs, including Claude 3.5, Gemini 1.5 Pro, GPT-4o, and o1.
Interactions occur as before, but user can choose which model to use in Copilot Chat. The solution allows programmers to seek help from the AI that best meets their project needs without the need for alternative solutions other than GitHub Copilot.
Starting this Tuesday (29th), developers will now be able to use Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet to help them program. Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro will be rolling out to the assistant in the next few weeks.
“Claude 3.5 Sonnet excels at coding tasks and is widely used by developers due to its exceptional understanding of software engineering principles and ability to tackle complex programming challenges,” said GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke.
“To continue our efforts to bring our most advanced AI capabilities directly into the hands of developers wherever they need and work, we are integrating Claude 3.5 Sonnet into GitHub Copiot today,” he continued.
As before, GitHub Copilot can automatically generate, review, refactor and optimize code. The accessibility of the assistant makes the consultation process much easier, eliminating the need to resort to an external chatbot to perform specific reviews and also gives the developer much more precise control.
