Almost at the same time that Netflix said goodbye to shared accounts, it also announced a cheaper ad-laden plan. The premise was to charge a small fee in exchange for viewing ad-supported content, without the ability to download and without access to the entire Netflix catalog.

The basic plan with ads, which, although it drew criticism from users, the data in Spain showed that it was one of the favorites for new subscribers. Now, Netflix has announced improvements to the features included in the ad-supported plan that make it a little more compelling.

Basically, it turns the basic plan with ads into a kind of standard plan, but without forgetting about ads. Some of the core features that were not available are now integrated into the cheap plan. From now on, users who subscribe to this plan will be able to view content in 1080p (instead of 720p) and they have support for two simultaneous transmissions.

These are the only features that carry over to the cheap Netflix ad-supported plan. For now, users won’t have access to the downloads or the entire catalog, but the good news is that Netflix backs the plan’s economic pricing and offer more value if you agree to these yes, streaming ads.

The cheap, ad-supported Netflix plan is already generating more revenue per user than the standard one.

For now, all of these improvements are only available to users in Canada and Spain, which are available starting today. They are also expected to improve cheap plan with ads in other 10 markets where it is available, including in the US, in the coming days and weeks.

Netflix hopes for these improvements make a cheap plan with ads more attractive to users, especially to attract new subscribers. And the fact is that, despite everyone’s opinion, Netflix does nothing wrong in terms of advertising.

“We believe that these improvements will make our offering even more attractive to a wider range of consumers and further strengthen the engagement of new and existing subscribers in the advertising plan.”

Only in the US is Netflix making more average revenue per user with its ad-supported plan than the standard plan. Netflix says the catalog of the cheap ad-supported plan already has 95% parity with traditional plans.
