Google has released an update for Chrome which promises to put an end to performance problems while browsing the web. The most recent version includes a tool that can detect excessive memory consumption. This feature will prevent your browser from freezing and forcing you to complete the recovery process.

The tech giant posted an update on its official blog detailing the changes. The desktop version of Chrome introduces performance alert tool which identifies problems and provides you with a solution. If a tab freezes or requires additional performance, the detector may suggest suspending other tabs to restore memory.

Performance warnings are displayed using an icon in the toolbar. By clicking on it, the user sees the problem and the recommended solution. The advantage of this feature is that does not require closing individual tabs or installing additional extensions to pause them. Likewise, it only activates when an incident occurs and offers to resolve it with the click of a button.

Tool especially useful when watching YouTube videos with dozens of open tabs. If you’ve ever had your browser freeze due to lack of resources, the performance alert will identify the ones that are consuming memory without you noticing and suspend them.

Chrome introduces new ways to save memory

Along with the new tool, Chrome is introducing new default modes for this feature. Memory saving. When this feature is active, it automatically pauses tabs you are not using to free up memory. Update includes modalities Moderate, balanced and maximumwhich differ in the time they turn off background tabs.

According to Google, Balanced Mode take into account your browsing habits and system needsand Moderate mode disables tabs based on your computer’s needs. Finally, Maximum mode is recommended for those who open many tabs in a window and need faster resource recovery.

New Chrome features are here available in desktop browser version 130.0.6723.92. To activate them, you simply need to click the three-dot menu in the right corner of the toolbar (next to your profile photo) and select Settings. In this menu, we will select the “Performance” option from the side menu.

Performance warnings and memory savers are optional, so the user can turn them off at any time. Chrome uses algorithms to optimize memory. While this feature is welcome, the performance configuration options don’t have the level of granularity that Edge offers.
