I recently finished reading a biography of everyone Ilona Musk knew by Walter Isaacson. The book is very interesting, easy to read and reveals the personalities of the millionaire, visionary and main inventor of our time from various angles.
As I read, I repeatedly came across references to mobile games, in which Elon Musk spends an insane amount of time, sometimes even to the detriment of his work and leisure. The game is called Polytopia, and Isaacson writes that sometimes this seemingly simple, turn-based strategy forces people to find common ground with Elon Musk and build their base in his companies.
I wondered what kind of game this was. I downloaded it, figured it out and was stuck for the whole weekend. This is an incredibly exciting tactical strategy that develops strategic thinking and in fact even resembles chess. It is free to download and no in-app purchases are required. So if you like “Civilization” and similar projects, be sure to sign up for Polytopia, you won’t regret it.

And for everyone else, below I’ll tell you about this game in a little more detail.
What is the meaning of Polytopia
Polytopia is a turn-based F2P strategy game in which you need to move your tribe to a separate map, collect enough resources to create an army, and conquer the enemy tribe (or several tribes).
In total, there are 16 tribes in the game, each with their own advantages and starting technologies. Four tribes are available for free, the rest can be purchased for money.
Each tribe has its own technological tricks.
Three game modes:
📍 Classic. You are given 30 moves in which you need to have time to turn around and earn the most points.
📍 Capture. There are no restrictions on the number of moves, your task is to destroy enemy tribes on the map.
📍 Sandbox. You yourself configure all the parameters of the game, from maps to the composition of opponents.
The controls are simple, you just need to click on units or elements on the map and in the action menu. Actions and moves have their price, which must be paid in stars. Stars are accumulated at the beginning of each journey thanks to your city and the overall development of your tribes.
Through the study of technology, you will develop your tribe into an invincible horde.
It sounds simple, but in fact there are many cases of tree development in the game thanks to leveling technology. Various modifications can be applied here, from agriculture to temple construction and navigation. The technology should be studied wisely, depending on the landscape of the map and the degree of development of the enemy.
As for units, Polytopia there are 12 types of them. Ordinary infantrymen with clubs to priests and spies who can be sent into enemy settlements to stir up uprisings and riots.
Accordingly, there are quite a few winning tactics – you can literally go “wall to wall” (not the smartest option), or you can cleverly wear out settlements by controlling their movement on the map and not allowing access to resources.

Every move needs to be thought through carefully.
After a few rounds, you begin to understand the possibilities of the gameplay and it becomes quite difficult to tear yourself away. So, you can play politics by making alliances and sending envoys to your neighboring tribes.
Multiplayer is present, although the opportunity to play with live funds online will require you to lose your stability. However, one-on-one “skating rinks” are available for free locally, using one smartphone in line.
On the map you can find various bonuses, from resources to units.
Powerful wooden craftsmanship and technology, as well as procedurally generated maps, make for a unique gaming session. There is simply no single winning tactic; you need to think through each specific move from the situation.
Simple graphics do not interfere, but rather allow you to focus on the process. And this is the secret of the success of the Battle of Polytopia.
Verdict
The game supports portrait and landscape modes.
I’ve never been particularly fond of mobile strategy games because the mechanics leave much to be desired on a small smartphone screen. Polytopia is the first project that really caught my attention and spent several weekends on it.
In each session, you feel like an absolutely powerful ruler of the world, who methodically conquers enemy tribes and becomes the sole ruler of the pixel world. But you should choose the wrong shift, because in a few moves you turn into an outcast, running away from your burning cities in order to accumulate strength far from the exit and return for a crushing revenge.
Cards make me want to think about buying a tribe. An interesting gaming experience is provided to all iPhone owners completely free of charge, so don’t hesitate to download
Battle for Polytopia and find out how good a strategy you are. The game is completely translated into Russian, which is nice.
