Sellers complained to the FAS that marketplaces automatically include their products in sales to get rid of unclaimed products. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to a letter from a member of the public council of the FAS, head of the ANO “Digitalization and New Technologies”, Alexey Kozhevnikov.

In an appeal to the director of the service, Maxim Shaskolsky, Kozhevnikov asked to check the automatic promotions of the markets, which offer discounts at the expense of the seller, for violations of the law on the protection of competition. The FAS confirmed receipt of the letter.
Initially, participation in Ozon and Wildberries promotions was voluntary: markets offered sellers to choose which products to make discounts on, but since the fall, products have been included in car promotions “by default” and sellers must immediately notify the markets of their reluctance to participate in the sales, said a newspaper source among the sellers. According to him, the discounts reach 50%.
The goal of car promotions is to empty warehouses of unclaimed products, explained Artem Sokolov, president of the Association of Internet Trading Companies (AKIT), in an interview with Kommersant. At the same time, sellers often find out about discounts after sales, says Kozhevnikov. For this reason, imposed promotions imply losses for sellers, added Ilya Kretov, head of e-commerce at T-Bank.
Wildberries told the newspaper that they warn sellers about car promotions three business days in advance. Recently, sellers were able to set a minimum price for products in advance and lock their share of sales, the company added. An Ozon representative said the platform also gave sellers the right to set a lower threshold price.
