After acquiring Meta AI, WhatsApp is working on its next features, including the visual search option integrated into the messaging app. The new feature will use Google Images technology to detect and search for sent photos and illustrations without leaving the app.
Discovered by expert website WABetaInfoThe visual search feature via Google Images was made available in beta mode in the 2.24.21.31 update. However, it will be possible to retrieve an image and use the Google search engine to search for this content, whether in a group or individual chat.
Let’s say you have received any image from someone on your WhatsApp and you want to know more about it. To do this, simply press until the message turns blue and click on the three dots in the upper right corner. There, search for “Search the web” and click it.
More security on the platform
As the website notes, the arrival of this new tool could be an additional security factor for the platform and the internet. Thus, users who receive a suspicious image can use Google Images directly via WhatsApp to determine whether the content is fake, manipulated, made by artificial intelligence, and even try to discover its origin.
Previously, to search for an image one had to go to Google Chrome or an app like Google Lens and then send or select the image and get the result containing the information.
For now, the search function with Google Images remains in test mode, but this tool is expected to gradually become generally available in the future.
