Rosstandart approved two new national standards that for the first time introduce requirements for laptops on the Russian market. This should improve the quality and safety of products on the Russian market. This is stated on the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

According to the order, GOST R 71174-2024 “Portables. Terms and definitions” and GOST R 71202-2024 “Portables. Types, main parameters, general technical requirements.”
New standards regulate the terminology, safety, classification and technical specifications of laptops. In particular, the concepts of portable and semi-portable computers, mechanical and virtual keyboards, touch screens and other components are established. Requirements have also been introduced for the assembly, operation and repair of laptops to protect them against electric shock.
GOSTs classify laptops into several categories: general-purpose, gaming, educational and special models for special conditions. Standards have been set for integrated webcams, touch panels, remote locking features, and resistance to shock, dust, and moisture.
At the end of nine months of 2024, the share of Russian laptops in the device market was 11.6% and for the first time surpassed the American Apple, Dell, HP and others. According to M.Video-Eldorado, cited by Kommersant, during this time 209 thousand domestic laptops were sold for 12.9 billion rubles, 29% more in parts and 64% in money compared to the same period in 2023.
