Most accidents with electric scooters occur when users of these vehicles and other road users travel in the same stream at different speeds. This was reported to RB.RU by the Association of Micromobility Operators, citing data from operators who share kicks.

According to them, 60% of incidents occur “at the intersection of vehicular and pedestrian infrastructure.” “Especially when leaving neighboring areas and crossing pedestrian crossings,” the association clarified.
The causes of accidents are usually violations of traffic rules and the rules of the services themselves: joint driving in a vehicle, dangerous maneuvers and others. Furthermore, in 70% of cases the victims are not pedestrians, but the users of personal mobility devices themselves.
For violations that often cause accidents, kicksharing operators have “much higher penalties”, for example, for driving while intoxicated the fine reaches 150,000 rubles, the association said.
In Russia, “there is a critical lack of infrastructure for micromobility transportation,” recalled Ksenia Erdman, director of the Association of Micromobility Operators. According to her, “all the sector’s indicators are growing, except the fundamental one: the number of bike lanes, which are necessary not only for rental SIMs, but also for private ones.”
At the same time, the association noted that, on average, incidents occur in only one in every 90,000 trips on electric scooters. For nine months of 2024, the share of incident-free trips on Whoosh, MTS Urent and Yandex Go electric scooters was 99.9%.
