According to him, the structure of the new “multi-million dollar investment” will be similar to the previous one, but this time the financing will have one condition: Anthropic’s refusal to use Nvidia chips. Instead, the company is encouraged to train its models on Amazon Web Services servers with processors designed by Amazon.
Amazon and Anthropic declined to comment.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by OpenAI natives Daniela and Dario Amodei. The company developed the first version of its Claude neural network in 2022; Two years later, American military and intelligence agencies became interested in Anthropic’s solutions.
In total, since its founding, Anthropic has attracted about $9.7 billion in investments, compared to $21.9 billion that OpenAI received, TechCrunch writes. The Information estimates that the company will spend around $2.7 billion developing and training new models in 2024.
Previously, Amazon had already invested $4 billion in Anthropic. At that time, Amazon Web Services customers were the first to gain access to the Claude family’s artificial intelligence products. Another investor in Anthropic was Alphabet (Google’s parent company), which invested $500 million in the developer in 2023.
