As RIA reports on Mbadi’s words, Uganda is considering alternative markets for coffee exports and the country is currently working on opening a center in Russia, which will increase the supply of coffee beans to the Russian Federation.

The minister noted that the purpose of opening the center is to “test the waters” regarding the demand for Ugandan products in the local market. If the market perceives the initiative positively, the supply of goods from the African State will increase.

In December 2023, Ugandan ambassador to Russia Moses Kizige reported that Ugandan coffee has a 5% share of the Russian market.

According to USDA data, Uganda will be the world’s sixth largest coffee supplier in 2024, with a 4% market share. In the 2023-2024 season, the country produced 384 thousand tons of products.
