The approach uses climate models to simulate what a weather event would look like in a world without climate change. This allows scientists to compare the actual event with these hypothetical scenarios and identify fingerprints of climate change.

Analysis of Storm Boris found that it would have produced approximately 9% less rainfall if global warming had not occurred. This difference is explained by the higher water temperatures in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, which contain more water vapor, leading to more precipitation.
