According to Reuters, Amazon could postpone the project indefinitely if the glasses do not work properly or their use is plagued by financial and other difficulties. The technology could take years to perfect, sources said.

The glasses, codenamed Amelia, will have a small screen located on one of the lenses and will be able to take photos of delivered packages as proof for customers, sources said.

While the technology is still in development, Amazon is trying to create a battery that will last a full eight-hour shift and be light enough to wear glasses all day. Reuters sources added that it will also take many years to collect complete data on houses and roads.

Amazon may also face other challenges: It will need to convince thousands of drivers to wear glasses, which can be uncomfortable, unsightly or even distract from the road, agency sources say.
