There’s talk of price drops for OLED TVs, but what about the Benelux?

In the world of OLED TV, there are rumors of a significant price drop that will contrast positively with today’s high inflation and energy costs. OLED technology has long been the standard for televisions in the more expensive price segments, but occasional price drops could signal an imminent comeback. Buying an OLED TV in the Benelux also seems to be slowly but surely becoming more affordable, but the ‘collapse’ might be a bit too drastic.

Looking at the ten cheapest OLED televisions included in the Hardware Info product comparison (here’s an interactive chart), we can paint a picture of relatively constantly falling prices. The table below compares the average prices of the ten cheapest televisions today with the average prices a year ago.

From this it is clear that OLED TVs are quite cheap, from 7 percent to almost 40 percent cheaper. Some nuances are the volatile nature of average prices; A seller can drastically influence the average price at any given moment not having to say anything about the actual price you will pay. Also, relatively fast falling prices are common in fast-emerging markets such as the TV market, but this is difficult to quantify.

Still, it seems like it’s actually getting pretty tempting to buy an OLED TV these days. Prices used to be very bad, partly due to the pandemic and chip shortages, but there is clearly a downward trend in OLED TV prices.
