According to RKN, “pro-drug content and false information” is still published on the site, which the agency demanded to be removed. Previously, Twitch repeatedly took administrative responsibility for failure to remove prohibited information and received fines of 40 million rubles, the press service recalled.
The platform is also included in the registry of social networks, therefore it is obliged to independently identify and block illegal information and create a form for user complaints. The relevant requirements are specified in Federal Law No. 530-FZ of December 30, 2020.
“The total amount of fines imposed on Twitch for non-compliance with this law is 20.7 million rubles. To date, Twitch has not paid the fines,” RKN said.
They added that for the moment “access to the Twitch streaming service is not limited.”
Earlier this week, several media outlets and Telegram channels, citing sources, reported that blocking Twitch was being discussed in Russia. They cited as a reason the platform’s ignorance of the multimillion-dollar fines for not removing prohibited information.
In mid-October, Russian users reported problems accessing Twitch. On October 15 and 18, on the Sboy.rf portal, the number of complaints about the service approached 300.
