The New Glenn rocket was originally planned to launch in 2020 but was delayed due to multiple delays in engine development. The new rocket should be a major milestone for the company, as its capabilities allow it to carry up to 45 tonnes of payload into low Earth orbit and 13 tonnes into geostationary orbit.

The New Glenn rocket will carry the Blue Ring platform designed to support space operations on its maiden flight. The rocket will be launched as part of the Pentagon-sponsored DarkSky-1 mission.

The company had planned to use New Glenn for a NASA mission, but the space agency decided not to use it for the first flight out of concerns that the launch could be delayed again. Instead, the rocket will carry Blue Ring technology.

Blue Origin will conduct a test soon; a static fire test in which all engines of the entire rocket will be fired. If the test is successful, the rocket will be ready for its first flight in November.
