Scientists from NovSU Polytechnic Institute have developed dishes with antimicrobial properties that can become an important tool in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, including ARVI, influenza and COVID-19. In these dishes, you can prepare solutions containing silver and copper ions, which have a strong antiseptic, antiviral and immunostimulating effect. The development was presented to the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
As the author of the project, NovSU Associate Professor of Graphic Design Alexander Tikhonov, explains, copper and silver are essential microelements with many useful properties. Copper has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and silver effectively fights more than 500 pathogenic microorganisms. According to Tikhonov, silver ions have an antimicrobial effect even superior to antibiotics such as penicillin, making these tools a useful alternative to traditional medicines.
The dishes are developed using special technology that allows you to create solutions with maximum antimicrobial and regenerating activity. During the production process, the container is coated with copper and silver is applied to the bottom and inner surface. The liquid poured into such a container and infused for several hours acquires bactericidal properties. Tikhonov noted that due to the low cost of silver, this tool can be used not only in medicine and pharmacy, but also in everyday life, which makes it suitable for wide use. Currently, the technology has already been patented and tableware samples are ready for implementation in production and medical institutions.
