A comprehensive report by Reuters It shows the dark side of OnlyFans regarding cases of sexual slavery, human trafficking, and aggression against women. With the promise of money and fame, many women are enslaved by their partners in cycles of abuse and trauma.
In 2020, a young woman from Wisconsin met Austin Koeckeritz online and quickly fell in love. Like any good beginning, the couple had perfect days and Austin made promises of trips. But her partner began quietly estranging the 23-year-old from her family and friends, including banning her from attending her grandmother’s funeral.
Over time, the kisses turned into kicks and other attacks, resulting in the victim being beaten until he lost consciousness. In 2021, Austin began forcing his girlfriend to record porn videos for platforms like OnlyFans, promising that the couple could make millions of dollars from the content.
Koeckeritz’s promise was not entirely empty. The victim collected just over US$420,000 (about R$2.5 million in direct conversion) from videos by displaying sexual content on the platform, but Austin transferred only US$2,000 (R$11,500) to the woman, who worked approximately 60 hours a week.
The woman told investigators her partner threatened to shoot his family if they tried to save him. All threats were made with a smile on the face of Austin, who had various weapons at home.
“My body was ready to die. I wasn’t sure if I would die from physical exhaustion and continued sexual abuse, or if I would end it all alone. […] “I still have nightmares about it,” says the victim.
traces of violence
The victim told Reuters she felt healthy and happy before meeting her boyfriend. As time went on, the blonde-haired young woman showed photos of herself and said that months after she started dating Austin, she noticed the shine starting to disappear from her eyes.
Bruises began to appear constantly on her abdomen and legs. Long hair was replaced by a short cut, and the woman’s weight dropped to 45 kg from the almost 70 kg she had before intercourse.
“I hope others who fall prey to drug trafficking know that they are not alone. “There is hope out there and there is always someone willing to help,” the young woman concludes.
The victim ran away from her boyfriend’s house in the morning hours in August 2022 and found a police car. Austin Koeckeritz was arrested and 14 weapons were found in his home, including a rifle, 20,000 rounds of ammunition, tactical clothing and various sex toys used in the protests.
In November 2023, Koeckeritz pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Cases across the country
Besides the victim in Wisconsin, other women were forced by their partners into sex work on OnlyFans and other adult websites like Chaturbate and MyFreeCams. Also in 2023, a woman in Van Buren, Arkansas, filed a complaint alleging that her boyfriend forced her to have sex on OnlyFans for hours and that he would physically attack her if she resisted.
A woman in Orlando, Florida, testified to a detective that her husband had been forcing her to make porn videos for months. The abuse took place in a caravan park on the outskirts of the city, and the man was only arrested for an unrelated past crime. The man was accused of human trafficking, but the woman withdrew the charges months later, according to the report.
Promises of fame and money
In addition to cases involving partners, a case against a porn actress implicates a human trafficking ring. Brittanya Razavi, a former TV show host and adult film actress, was accused of manipulating two women and stealing profits made through pornographic content.
Razavi allegedly coerced two young women, one of whom lost her job during the pandemic, and an immigrant who was kicked out of foster care as a teenager. Brittanya convinced them both to create OnlyFans accounts through her conservatorship, which was linked to management company Fenix International, promising 50% of the profits.
The woman used both her identities and social security numbers to create profiles on OnlyFans that only she could access. Razavi then forced the young women to get drunk to act out the sex scenes. The scammer collected approximately US$1.3 million (R$7.5 million) from the videos and donated only 10% to the victims.
