The Isaac James Studio team, working in five cities in Russia, is developing the “Father of Cthulhu” game inspired by the Soviet board game “Battleship”. According to studio head Vladislav Medelis, in the project, the places where players will have to search for the boss Monster that blocks the exit are flooded settlements divided into square areas. Each cell is cloaked in fog, and the player’s goal is to clear the cell using detectors while encountering obstacles that trigger actions that yield random results.

The game combines elements from different genres, including turn-based tactical strategy and risk in the game Minesweeper. The project’s game director explained that the game uses dice mechanics to allow players to influence the likelihood of taking damage. Despite taking inspiration from cult games, the developers decided not to delve into the Cthulhu theme, instead focusing more on pseudo-sci-fi and alien creatures. Graduates of prestigious universities are involved in the development process, and the game will be available on the VK Play platform in 2025, and later on Steam.

However, experts expressed concerns about the excess of game mechanics. Maxim Zalilov, e-sports teacher at Synergy, noted that a large number of different game elements can confuse players, while the visual style of the project is more suitable for mobile games with simple rules. At the same time, Alexander Gorbachenko, director of the Intercontinental eSports League, emphasized that “Father of Cthulhu” has interesting mechanics and a non-standard plot, which can be one of the strengths of the project, especially for young viewers.
