GreedFall is an RPG set in a world plagued by a plague called Malicor, and you, the legate, are on an expedition to the island of Tir Fradee in search of a cure for it. What follows is a gripping story of friendship, war, diplomacy, and exploration as you meet various interesting characters and must constantly manipulate the uneasy relationships of all the factions on the island.
History
The story was mostly satisfying. It touches on some of the heavy themes of the time, such as colonialism, genocide, religious persecution, etc., as different factions and their ideas fight for dominance in an ever-changing world that they want to dominate.
You will be faced with some tough decisions that will affect the relationship of these nations and the outcome of the game, making them feel important and significant, which I like. Rarely in a game do we have so much influence over its events. The choice affects your relationship with both factions and people, and as a result, they treat you differently. I love that there are consequences and the game never directly tells you that you made the wrong decision, but you feel it if something happens that you didn’t plan for.

However, some missions are also obviously implausible, clichéd, boring, and copies of sample missions, and sometimes slightly more interesting ones are thrown into the mix. The same goes for enemies that just drop in groups of 3-5 in a region to slow you down a bit. Perhaps my favorite set of enemies is in New Serena (the second town you encounter), where 3 unassuming thugs “wait for you” every time you pass the guardhouse, which is filled with guards who are supposed to prevent a crime.
graphic arts
The graphics are decent. The spiders have done an amazing job creating the outside world and making it feel like it’s full of life. During the day the cities look busy, used and dirty, with all the hallmarks of a new colony hard at work, but at night they turn dingy, with beautiful lights from various fires casting a warm yet eerie glow in the dark, dangerous. nooks and crannies. Flora and fauna, as well as excellent lighting in nature, also create beauty.

However, the water is not so good and stands out, but this is only a small part of the world. Most notable was that the interiors of all the settlements were copied, with slight differences for the different cities. In a world that was otherwise so messy, it felt lazy and made cities and their factions less unique, nullifying the story and cultural design work that really made factions feel different.

Audio
Music is used to enhance environments or scenes, but mostly works as background noise rather than an ambient tool. It could have been used to better effect in emotional scenes, but there were few clues in the game, and the Spiders made good use of what they had. Ambient and combat sounds are good. The firearm has a click before firing when the trigger is pulled, just a nice touch. The swords make a metallic sound, and when the armor hits the flesh, it’s already different.
A very good job has been done on the voice acting. There were some lines that felt forced, but your character is very well expressed. Most of the supporting actors sound great and convey emotion and personality well, and I also liked the accents of the characters in Congregation.
pumping
After completing the 45-hour game, I didn’t have enough experience to unlock all the skills. I don’t know if it was meant to be, but it felt like bad game pacing, especially since you’ll find things in the world like jumping or climbing that require certain perks. Fortunately, there has always been an alternative way to deal with such situations.

Also in theory, the system present in this game seems quite reasonable, although it manages to be functional, it has some aspects that seem quite strange, such as the charisma system in which you can put up to 3 points, which increases your chances. pass voice control by 25% per point, up to a total increase of 75%. There is no system in the game that prevents you from reloading until you pass a skill check.
The battle
I don’t normally like combat systems like this, but GreedFall was pretty good for the most part. You get different enemies with different attacks and you dodge them, take away their armor and then their health. You can approach the fight however you like, and while it’s pretty intense, it can get repetitive. During the fight, you can’t interact with the world, and it started to bother me that when I cleaned the locations, after a few days, the enemies would come back, and when I just had to complete the quest, I didn’t want to waste my time on another fight. You get XP for fights, but sometimes on short missions it gets in the way.
However, space permitting, you can avoid the fight by running past the enemy. You can also accidentally leave the combat zone by dodging, and this will restore the enemy’s health, so you have to start over. I don’t like repetitive bosses. You will face several large monsters known as Guardians, but you will have to fight them several times.

Although on paper it may seem that the combat system works and works as it should, nothing could be further from the truth. Your block ability has no stamina bar or cooldown, so you can only spam one button and win every fight, as a “perfectly” timed block will allow you to land a hit without having to press any other buttons . This technique doesn’t work against ranged enemies or bosses that can walk through your block, but fear not, there’s also a “dodge” option that will allow you to dodge indefinitely, dodging each attack while your teammates attack the boss. They may be provoked by the boss, but most of the time, they will just glitch and never attack your teammates. I managed to recreate this a couple of times and took down the bosses using just my dodge ability. On top of that, you also have the ability to use a firearm that fires fast enough to allow you to stun anyone you can hit (the ammo required to use this firearm is also very cheap and available from all merchants, too). you gain the ability to craft ammo, in case you run out of ammo).
The combat isn’t bad overall, but I feel like it was overused and tedious towards the end of the game. Enemies felt unnecessarily plentiful.

conclusion
Overall, GreedFall is a good game that lacks technical prowess and has some annoying flaws. But it’s not a bad story, with choices that feel meaningful, full of colorful characters, and set in a beautiful, believable world. I love the era this game was made in, and I’d like the developers to review it and fix some of its shortcomings. Definitely a step up for the Spiders.
