It is true that the number of Internet users through satellite communications is much lower compared to traditional network access. As a rule, such a connection is used to solve strategic problems in remote and hard-to-reach regions.
Will satellite internet be able to compete with regular internet? Such a scenario seems unlikely, and there are certain reasons for it.
- In cities, such an Internet is not necessary.. Today, almost every city on the planet actively uses cable Internet and mobile networks. By the way, cable Internet will soon dominate this niche, since a worthy competitor for it has already appeared in the face of the 5G network.
- It is expensive. The launch of a unified satellite network is unlikely due to the high cost of implementing this project. The most “affordable” satellite Internet is Starlink, however, its price of $500 cannot be called affordable.
- A 100% stable connection is not guaranteed. The satellite signal can be interrupted by interference from other devices, atmospheric phenomena, and even solar activity. Satellite communication cannot issue a stable ping.
- The antenna provides a high-quality connection, satelite. Such antennas are configured without any problems, but it is not always possible to install such an apparatus. In simple words, today there is no need to wait for a mobile phone with a good satellite Internet signal.
- The negative impact of radio waves. If each person uses satellite Internet from his smartphone, then this will negatively affect not only human health, but also representatives of flora and fauna. This is due to the large number of radio waves.
- All servers are hosted on the planet,and the signal is already reaching the satellites from them. And already a specific satellite transmits a signal to the subscriber’s device. Therefore, delays and interruptions will occur in any case. It is another thing to install all the servers in space, but it is worth remembering the detrimental effect of radiation on equipment and such a fantastic idea disappears like a rhinestone.
Relay satellites in large numbers in space litter the Earth’s orbit, which will eventually lead to the appearance of space debris. A small number of satellites cannot be dispensed with, because their number directly depends on the number of subscribers.
Satellite Internet will undoubtedly develop, but not to the extent that some desperate dreamers picture in their heads. Satellite Internet may become relatively affordable in remote regions, but its popularity among regular subscribers remains in question. Today, even small villages are equipped with cell phone towers that provide subscribers in the village with a good Internet connection.
