Publisher Nacon rounded out his presentation with a slew of gameplay trailers. Among the list of possible games, players were most interested in RoboCop: Rogue City. A trailer from a year ago didn’t say much, except for the fact that it was being developed by the old Terminator: Resistance team. The gameplay trailer for RoboCop: Rogue City finally arrived today, along with a release date.
RoboCop: Rogue City was scheduled for 2023. The game will release on PC in June 2023. A more precise date has not been announced yet, but there is still plenty of time. Developer Teyon is hard at work on a game that looks set to have players cleaning crime from Detroit’s dirty streets in the near future.
RoboCop: Rogue City gameplay trailer showcases the inside world and actual gameplay. Playing in first person, you play as RoboCop fighting various Detroit gangs and other criminals. It should follow the same plot lines as the movies, in which a desperate town resurrects a fallen officer, Alex Murphy, as a nearly unstoppable killing machine.
In terms of gameplay, RoboCop: Rogue City looks pretty solid, even if the color palette looks a bit too gray. Detroit looks dark and dangerous at night, with impressive lighting and fine detail. There are also industrial areas, where without them. The beefy bad boys don’t seem to be the only targets, either. We see a brief fight with the ED-209 robot where you can use the environment to deal some damage.
For the most part, the game looks good, with a few exceptions. RoboCop: Rogue City is still in early development and lacks facial animation. It looks like RoboCop is picking up and throwing away mall mannequins. Also, I also have to ask why the iconic RoboCop pistol sounds like a regular rifle. If you’re going to make a game based on one of the most famous action movies of the 80’s, you need to get the sound right.
