I still plan to actively hold on, trying to find the reason. Support didn’t know anything about it. Eventually, the questions reached the right people in Cupertino, and the company finally explained what was happening on the help page for the new AirPods Pro 2 features:

To help ensure your AirPods’ microphones and speakers are performing optimally (for example, to ensure high-quality hearing test results), AirPods may periodically beep quietly while in the charging case.

Simply put, AirPods Pro 2 on the latest firmware have learned to carry out self-diagnosis. When they come out in the case, they reproduce a characteristic high-frequency signal and at the same time listen to it with their own microphones. What, why and how happens next with the result of this test, only Apple engineers know.

Now you also know what’s going on. It didn’t seem to you that your second “pods” were in order and weren’t broken. They just got a little wiser. I just don’t understand what prevented Apple from explaining the new signal to owners through the microphone window after installing the appropriate firmware.
