These are the maximum rates of the Central Bank for American and European currencies since March 2022. Relative to the official rates on Thursday, November 28, the dollar rose by 1.57 rubles and the euro by 3.05 rubles.

The day before, November 27, the dollar exchange rate on the Russian interbank market exceeded 114 rubles, the euro was worth more than 120 rubles. During the day the ruble depreciated more than 7%. In the afternoon of the same day, the Central Bank announced that it would not purchase foreign currency until the end of 2024 as part of the implementation of the fiscal rule to “reduce the volatility of financial markets.”

The Russian currency reacted with a correction. On November 28, at least, the dollar on the interbank market was worth 107 rubles and the euro was worth 113.35 rubles. At 18:24 Moscow time, the American currency was quoted at 108.1 rubles (-5.04 rubles), the euro was worth 114.13 rubles (-5.37 rubles).

Vladimir Putin, at a press conference in Astana, stated that the situation with the Russian currency is "generally under control." “There is certainly absolutely no reason to panic. Yes, the processes in our country and in neighboring countries are not easy, but they are under control, everything is going according to plan,” said the president. He added that fluctuations in the Russian currency are determined by "seasonal factors," including payments to the budget and oil prices.
